In the 50s,60s,&70s I rode all English Singles.
All of them were set up for work or dirt. Most of the guys I rode with worked in machine shops and so did I.That gave us the advantage to keep those old JEWELS running very well. Most of them had been raced for a season or two on the dirt track near Portland Oregon.I started with a Triumph Cub then got a 350AJS and finally ended up with a BSA Gold Star that was my most favorite
machine.I cant remember what year it was for some reason. I found it buried under a bunch of old dirty tarps in the warehouse at the shop I was working at.The owners of the shop had bought it to
use in the woods on their hunting trips but couldnt get it started in the cold weather so there it sat with about 600mi on it.I worked some overtime on the weekends to pay for it,gave it some TLC and rode it for years. Many times I have wished I had her back.I guess I forgave that old THUMPER for all the times that it wouldnt start so easy and kick back so hard it would either tear the heel off my boot or pitch me off right in the mud,not a pretty sight but some good memories from early riding.
There was also an old Bultaco but thats a story all buy its self.
